Understanding the different plaster types will help you gain more knowledge on what kind of plaster is suitable for you. Gypsum plaster would date back to 4000 B.C; where in the Egyptians would use gypsum like plaster to the interior portions of their pyramids. Benjamin Franklin then took it to the US during the 1700’s as a soil stabilizer. Later in 20th century, contractors began using gypsum plaster for constructing commercial and residential structures.

This kind of plasters is generally good for interior constructions; but it is not ideal for water exposure and excessive moisture. Generally, the plasters are not advisable for exterior constructions like porches and carports.

Another type would be the lath and plaster. This kind of plaster is also used for commercial and residential constructions. It is used to partition interior areas where in the appearance and stability is taken into consideration. This kind of plaster can also be used as a panel material for ceilings.

Veneer plaster usually consists of gypsum plastering with a very absorbent paper and a covering made up of specially designed plasters.
